T. Rowe Price is partnering with HandsOn New Orleans to offer FinCon attendees an opportunity to positively impact our host locale of New Orleans by supporting and strengthening the community.
HandsOn News Orleans is a non-profit that connects passion with purpose by matching their base of volunteers to over 40 local partner agencies that address an array of issues from education and the environment to homelessness and housing. By involving businesses in service projects, they achieve their mission to engage, empower and transform communities.
About the event:
Volunteers are asked to assemble packages that contain Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) toys, games and home experiments appropriate for 8-11 year olds. Examples of these activities include: a Thermochromics experiment, disappearing ink chemistry kit, geometry set, a DIY fruit-powered clock experiment, and more. These kits are designed to inspire children to learn outside the classroom, and teachers will distribute them to students who are struggling in their studies as an additional incentive to learn.
Kits will be delivered to students at the Einstein Charter School. Einstein Charter School took over a failing elementary school in 2006. Since then, Einstein has made continuous, uninterrupted gains in student achievement, has raised the school’s grade to a B, and has received its second consecutive “Top Gains School” designation from the Louisiana Department of Education after surpassing the state’s annual school growth expectations.
Einstein Charter is an open admission, tuition-free school serving 909 students’ ages 4-14 years old. 91% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Get Involved: Help us create these easy-to-assemble kits in Studio 9 of the Preservation Hall, from 2:00-4:30pm on Saturday, September 20th. It only takes a few minutes, and with your help, the kits will benefit over 200 students living in underserved neighborhoods of New Orleans.
